Moody's Economy.com has over 100 employees. Our senior staff has responsibility for the firm's client support, analytical research, modeling, and financial, marketing, and technology operations. Our senior staff members are profiled below.

Client Services

Monica Mercurio Monica Mercurio is Vice President of Client Services. Ms. Mercurio oversees the operations of Moody's Economy.com Client Services Group, which is responsible for addressing questions and inquiries from Moody's Economy.com clients and prospects. Ms. Mercurio holds a bachelor's degree from Villanova University.

Data Services

Jean-Marc Rollet Jean-Marc Rollet is Director of Data Services. Mr. Rollet oversees the group's day-to-day activities, including fielding client questions and acquiring new datasets. Mr. Rollet holds an MBA degree from West Chester University.

Karl Zandi Karl Zandi is Chief Data Officer of Moody's Economy.com. Mr. Zandi has responsibility for all commercial and technical aspects of Moody's Economy.com data operations. Mr. Zandi holds a bachelor's degree from West Chester University.

E-Commerce Technology

Mark Gershman Mark Gershman joined Moody’s Economy.com in June 1994 and is a Senior Managing Director. Mr. Gershman’s current responsibilities include: design, implementation, and management of all technological aspects of the business and ensuring that the strategic, creative and service elements of the company's projects are successfully implemented. He has held a number of positions within the firm, including Economist, Director of Internet Services, and Chief Technology Officer. Prior to joining Moody’s Economy.com, he served in the United States Army and then operated his own computer consulting business as he pursued his education. Mr. Gershman received his M.A. in Economics and M.B.A. from the University of Delaware, where he also received his B.S. in Economics.

Salvatore Vanore Salvatore Vanore is Vice President of E-Commerce. Mr. Vanore manages the team of programmers who have responsibility for the firm's web and e-commerce operations. Mr. Vanore holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

Executive

Janet Alioto Janet Alioto is Chief Client Officer at Moody’s Economy.com. Ms. Alioto joined the company in 1996 and oversees all aspects of product quality and client satisfaction. She has over twenty years management experience in the economics industry. Ms. Alioto holds a B.A. from Temple University.

Paul Getman Paul Getman is President/Chief Executive Officer of Moody’s Economy.com. In his capacity as President/CEO of Moody’s Economy.com, Paul oversees the company’s business affairs and strategic planning. Paul has over 20 years' experience in consulting and research on economic issues. He has testified before government agencies and regularly gives speeches on the U.S. outlook for industry and trade groups, nonprofit organizations, and senior corporate management.

Paul has an M.A. in Economics and has completed all but the dissertation requirements of the Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Finance and Commerce.

Mark Zandi Mark Zandi is Chief Economist and co-founder of Moody’s Economy.com, where he directs the company’s research and consulting activities. Moody’s Economy.com, a division of Moody’s Analytics, provides economic research and consulting services to businesses, governments and other institutions.

Mark’s research interests include macroeconomic, financial, and regional economics. Recent areas of research include studying the determinants of mortgage foreclosure and personal bankruptcy, an analysis of the economic impact of various tax and government spending policies, and an assessment of the appropriate policy response to bubbles in asset markets. In addition, Mark conducts regular briefings on the economy. He is frequently quoted in national and global news outlets.

Dr. Zandi received his Ph.D. at the University of Pennsylvania, where he did his research with Gerard Adams and Nobel laureate Lawrence Klein, and he received his B.S. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Marketing

Brett Hampson Brett Hampson is Vice President of Business Development at Moody's Economy.com. Mr. Hampson's duties include handling client subscription renewals and marketing and sales. Mr. Hampson joined the organization in 2004. Prior to working at Moody's Economy.com, Mr. Hampson worked for Pioneer Standard where his duties included inside sales and marketing. He holds a B.A. from Ohio Wesleyan University.

Robin Heid Robin Heid is Senior Account Representative for Moody's Economy.com. Ms. Heid is part of the Moody's Economy.com Account Management team and manages all aspects of our relationships with clients in the mid-Atlantic and South. Ms. Heid holds a BS/BA in Economics from the American University and an MBA degree from Villanova University.

Steve Kiley Steve Kiley is Director of Account Management for Moody’s Economy.com. As part of Moody’s Economy.com’s account management team, he oversees all aspects of our relationships with clients in the midwestern and western states. Mr. Kiley holds an MBA from Villanova University.

Michael Kubiak Michael Kubiak is Chief Sales Officer for Moody's Economy.com. Mr. Kubiak's duties include U.S. sales development and marketing and sales responsibility for eight western states. Mr. Kubiak holds an M.B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh and a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania.

Mike McDermott Mike McDermott is a Vice President of Business Development for Moody’s Economy.com. Mr. McDermott's duties include handling client subscription renewals and marketing and sales responsibility for the New England states and New York. Prior to joining Moody's Economy.com, Mr. McDermott worked at Standard & Poor's DRI and has over 12 years of experience in the economic information industry. Mr. McDermott holds a B.A. from Framingham State College and is a Master Sergeant with the U.S. Army Retired Reserves.

Raj Sheth Raj Sheth is Vice President of Business Development with Moody’s Economy.com. Raj manages client relationships, business development and sales-related activities in Europe. Raj earned a Masters in Development Economics from the London School of Economics, and graduated in Business Studies and Financial Accounting from Bombay University.

Robert Stewart Robert Stewart is Director of Sales for Moody’s Economy.com. Mr. Stewart has extensive experience working with both public and private sector clients. Mr. Stewart has an M.A. in Economics and completed all but the dissertation requirement of a Ph.D. from Temple University.

Research

Celia Chen Celia Chen is Director of Housing Economics at Moody’s Economy.com. She develops the proprietary housing market indicators maintained by Moody’s Economy.com and covers housing market issues. Dr. Chen also edits Précis State and has participated in numerous consulting projects. These projects include econometric modeling of regional house-price forecasts, consumer and mortgage lending, advertising, and optimal product pricing.

Dr. Chen earned her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and her B.A. in Economics from Barnard College.

Steven Cochrane Steven Cochrane is Senior Managing Director at Moody’s Economy.com where he directs a broad range of the firm’s economic research activities. Dr. Cochrane directs the regional economic service in which he manages a large-scale econometric system of regional models that are used to provide projections of economic, demographic, real estate, and financial indicators. Dr. Cochrane oversees the forecasts for all 50 states. He directs current work in developing regional models for the Moody’s Economy.com international services.

Dr. Cochrane is editor of the Regional Financial Review, our monthly publication that analyzes current macro, regional, industry and international economic trends.

Dr. Cochrane is also a frequent contributor to the Dismal Scientist web site where he comments on a variety of macroeconomic and regional economic issues. He is a regular speaker at the Moody’s Economy.com executive briefings and teleconferences, and has appeared or spoken on Wall Street Radio, NewsHour with Jim Lehrer and CNBC.

Dr. Cochrane received his Ph.D. in Regional Science from the University of Pennsylvania, his master’s degree from the University of Colorado, and his bachelor's degree from the University of California at Davis.

Alfredo Coutino Alfredo Coutino is a Senior Economist at Moody’s Economy.com. Dr. Coutino is responsible for the analysis, modeling and forecasting of Mexico and Latin America. He is the editor of Dismal Scientist: LatAm edition. He has been a speaker at United Nations conferences and the American Economic Association meetings and has published papers on applied econometrics with Lawrence Klein (Nobel Laureate 1980). Dr. Coutino completed doctoral studies at Temple University in Philadelphia and received his Ph.D. from the University of Madrid, Spain.

Marisa Di Natale Marisa Di Natale is a Senior Economist at Moody’s Economy.com. Previously, she was an economist at the Bureau of Labor Statistics in Washington, D.C. Ms. Di Natale is responsible for state and metro area forecast models, analysis of the U.S. labor market, and editing the Précis Metro. Ms. Di Natale received an M.A. in Applied Economics from Johns Hopkins University and a B.A. in International Relations from Boston University.

Gus Faucher Gus Faucher is Director of Macroeconomics at Moody’s Economy.com. He is the editor of Précis Macro and the U.S./Canada edition of the Dismal Scientist website; he is also a frequent contributor to the Dismal Scientist. Dr. Faucher covers Federal Reserve monetary policy and federal government fiscal and policy issues for Moody’s Economy.com. Prior to joining Moody’s Economy.com, Dr. Faucher was a Senior Economist for six years at the U.S. Treasury Department. He has also taught at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Dr. Faucher earned his Ph.D. in Economics at the University of Pennsylvania, with concentrations in labor economics and public economics. He also has an A.B. in Economics from Cornell University.

Ed Friedman Ed Friedman is a Senior Economist at Moody's Economy.com. He covers Texas and Minnesota and the chemicals industry, and contributes to the analysis of financial markets. Additionally, Ed is developing methodologies to link monthly macroeconomic indicators to forecasts of current quarter GDP. Before working at Moody's Economy.com, he was employed by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He received his Ph.D. from Yale University.

Michael Helmar Michael Helmar is Director of Industry Economics at Moody’s Economy.com and is responsible for industry and state analysis. He also edits an edition of Précis Metro. Prior to joining Moody’s Economy.com, Mr. Helmar was Director of Research at the Delaware Economic Development Office. He was also at Iowa State University, where he was involved in agricultural policy research. Mr. Helmar received his master’s degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Nevada, Reno.

Scott Hoyt Scott Hoyt is Senior Director of Consumer Economics at Moody’s Economy.com. Scott is responsible for the firm's consumer forecasts and analysis. He is the editor of Consumer Flow and is lead analyst for CreditForecast.com. He is a regular contributor to the Dismal Scientist and to Moody’s Economy.com conferences. Scott holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to joining Moody's Economy.com, Scott spent five years as an economist for J.C. Penney Co.

Tony Hughes Tony Hughes is Managing Director of Credit Analytics at Moody’s Economy.com. His main responsibility involves managing the company’s various credit analysis consulting projects for a number of global lending institutions. Now based in the U.S., Dr. Hughes’ earlier role involved heading up Moody’s Economy.com’s Sydney office where he was editor of the Dismal Scientist Asia Pacific while also acting as the company’s lead economist in the region. He retains a keen interest in emerging markets and a forecasting role for the Japanese economy.

Dr. Hughes is an expert applied econometrician. His past research interests have been varied but he has lately focused on the synthesis of macroeconomic forecasting models with firm level aggregates and individual record data pertaining to retail credit outcomes.

A former tenured academic, holding positions at the University of Adelaide and Vanderbilt University, Dr. Hughes received his Ph.D. in Econometrics from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. He has published a number of articles in leading statistics and economics journals.

Sophia Koropeckyj Sophia Koropeckyj is Managing Director of Industry Economics at Moody’s Economy.com. She covers labor markets, auto and related industries, and two states in the industrial Midwest. She also edits an edition of the Précis Metro. Ms. Koropeckyj holds a B.A. in History and Economics from the University of Pennsylvania, an M.A. and is A.B.D. in Economics from the University of Michigan, and an M.S. in Finance from Drexel University.

Juan Licari Juan Licari is a Senior Economist at Moody's Economy.com. As a member of our Credit Analytics Group, Juan conducts detailed analysis on consumer credit, works on various consulting projects with major banks and credit card companies, and builds econometric models to forecast credit risk at the portfolio level.

Prior to joining Moody's Economy.com, Juan worked at the Institute of Economics and Finance, an independent think tank in Argentina. He specialized in central banking and financial intermediation.

Juan holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania, where he also obtained an M.A. in Economics. During his graduate studies, he specialized in financial and monetary economics. Juan completed his undergraduate studies at the National University of Cordoba, Argentina where he obtained a summa cum laude B.S. in Economics.

Mark McMullen Mark McMullen is Director of Government Consulting at Moody’s Economy.com. He covers the fiscal condition of state and local government, and the role that state budgets play in the broader economy. He has developed numerous statistical models investigating industry and public sector topics, statewide growth, demographics, and trade, including Moody’s Economy.com’s state revenue forecasting system. Prior to joining Moody's Economy.com, Mark worked at the Center for International Comparisons and Congressional Budget Office. Mark holds a B.A. in Economics from Pomona College, and an M.A. and is A.B.D. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania.

Daniel Melser Daniel Melser is a Senior Economist at the Moody's Economy.com office in Sydney. Daniel received a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of New South Wales, Australia. Daniel has worked as a lecturer of economics as well as in the production, compilation and development of official statistics. His primary research interests are in the areas of inflation measurement, economic growth, the Chinese economy, house prices and empirical macroeconomics.

Tu Packard Tu Packard is a Senior Economist at Moody's Economy.com. Ms. Packard is chief editor of the World Workstation. A graduate of Bryn Mawr College and Columbia University, she has published papers on the international business cycle, prototype models for developing and transition economies, monetary policy for developing countries, the effects of external liberalization on economic performance and social policy implications, banking system crises and early warning indicators. She has over 20 years of experience in international economic consulting for clients that include the United Nations, the World Bank, the Ford Foundation, business enterprises and academic institutions.

Virendra Singh Dr. Singh is a Senior Economist with Moody’s Economy.com. He specializes in international economics and econometrics, and his recent work has focused on trade, capital flows and currency issues. Dr. Singh is responsible for Moody’s Economy.com’s global macroeconomic forecast. Dr. Singh received his Ph.D. in Economics from Temple University and M.A. in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics. His prior work experience includes the World Bank and the U.S. Department of Treasury.

Aaron Smith Aaron Smith is a Senior Economist and Associate Editor of Dismal North America at Moody’s Economy.com. He is a part of the U.S. macroeconomics team and is responsible for producing commentary under the Today’s Economy and This Week’s Economy trademarks. The team generates high-frequency indicators forecasts and authors several weekly publications. Aaron also assists in the oversight of other members in the group. Duties also include coverage of global industry and U.S. regional economies. Mr. Smith received his B.A. in Economics and Business Administration from Coe College. He graduated summa cum laude and his undergraduate research explored wealth effects, with a focus on financial assets.

Ruth Stroppiana Ruth Stroppiana is Chief International Economist at Moody’s Economy.com. Now located in the London office, Dr. Stroppiana is responsible for European-related research on the Dismal Scientist. Her main responsibilities include covering the U.K. economy and a number of emerging markets. Ruth’s earlier role as Director of Asia Pacific Economics at the Moody’s Economy.com Sydney office involved her acting as the company’s lead economist in the region. She has extensive experience in analyzing countries in the Asia Pacific region and Europe and has been quoted in a wide range of global news outlets. Dr. Stroppiana received her Ph.D. in Economics in 1999 from the University of Queensland, Australia.
